Step 5: Where does our waste go?
Solo Cup Europe currently recycles 97% of its’ waste, and we are working on the other 3%, with an aim to reach 0% by the end of 2011.
Solo Cup Europe is actively working to reduce waste sent to landfill by 100% in 2011, by:
- Improving the recycling of our mixed recycling wastes (cans, bottles, paper, plastic, strapping etc)
- Improving the recycling in all staff canteens (again - can, bottles, newspapers and the like)
- Recycle all fine dust wastes from the filters in the factory
- Recycle the cores of paper reels, via third party incinerators, used to create electricity
- Reducing the use of blue paper towels by installing energy efficient Dyson Airblades™
Scrap polymer is reground and reused through the manufacturing process. This means that less material is wasted and material efficiency is maximised.
